I took the cover off the gas bbq a couple of weeks ago (when the weather was good) and the grill plates have gone all rusty. I have used a wire brush on them but still seem to be a brown colour. Does anybody know the best way of getting rid of all the rust so i can cook on them again ?

thanks

wire wool

and oil them after use (cooking fat will do, it will burn off again when you next light it)

anyway, a bit of rust will not hurt you.

Found that not covering the BBQ helped stop the rust, because most came from condensation which lingered, whilst any rain dried off...

Also, don't bother cleaning the grill after use (always a bonus), just clean them just before using the next time...

Really, all the griddles should be removable after use, and stored indoors.
Just like all the other cooking utensils.
Remember, always cook the food properly in the oven and just put it on the grill to burn a bit of BBQ flavour into it. It's quicker as all the cooking can be done beforehand, and you will stand less chance of poisoning your friends and family
