I have a small box room where only a divan bed will fit and due to the make up of the room it has to go against a cold external wall.

The wall is covered with a wallrock liner which has made an improvement however it is difficult to stop the mattress from touching the wall and creating condensation/damp.

Is there anything I can place against the wall to prevent the mattress touching it direct but that won’t still create condensation? By this I mean I have tried polystyrene but still then get condensation between polystyrene and mattress. Or is it just a case of every morning pulling the mattress slightly away from wall?

Do you have a radiator on in the room during the day/evening? Also, does condensation go on the windows too? Does anyone use/sleep in the room or is it a spare? It's unusual for a spare room to get so much condensation.

Cavity wall insulation will help if ever you get offered it for free but the only way is to create an air gap. Polystyrene sheet is cheap from DIY and will help but you said you tried that.

If someone is nightly using the bed, then mattresses absorb lots of moisture during the night from the person sleeping in it, which is why it is usual to air the bed and bedding during the day. If that is the case, then the only way is to pull it away from the wall each morning.

I have a small box room in my house, coldest room as it has two external walls and no ventilation. I used wallrock which has made a big difference but I have a divan bed that has to go up against the two external walls due to the configuration of the room. Where the mattress touches the wall the bed sheet gets cold and damp. I pull it away from the wall slightly each day to ease this but is there anything I could put against the wall that the bed could then be pushed up against that wouldn’t cause mould and/or condensation? I tried polystyrene sheets but bed sheet still gets saturated on the side touching the wall. The room is small so there isn’t much scope to pull the bed away from the wall. Any suggestions?

Yes used by youngest child and yes on very cold days window condensation too which I wipe off on those mornings, there is a heater on in the evenings well from about 4pm, not during the day due to cost. It’s tricky I could use a small spacer of some sort to keep bed base away plus the skirting does that but more tricky with mattress itself

I wondered if perhaps something like a layer of wallrock dampstop thermic paper where the bed is up to the level of the top of the mattress so it’s not visible might ease the problem a bit more?

Needs ventilation , what’s the heat source ? You could insulate the external walls .

Tell us about airing of the bed, and ventilation of the room.
