Could do with help with a math question.

Just weighed a 500ml beer can, 105gms, let's go for a hundred, i have eight a night,seven nights,can someone sort out what i throw away weekly ?.

Years ago, 17 actually, i gave my daughter, then aged 7, about ten bin bags of the same cans, and a lump hammer  She did it over say, ten days.(squashed them).

When i took her to weigh in,her money, she drew £8.

Ally price isn't to bad at the mo,i can't do this sum tonight, as iv'e had four cans(proper council estate talk, i know) but could i be helped tonight?, even been thinking about hoovering up all the ally cans on the day when all the neighbours pay for the pleasure of giving all this money away(collection day)

7 x 8 = 56 cans per week x 105grms = 5880 divide 1000 = 5.88kg per week

5.88 x 52 = 305.76kg per year scrap aluminium.

at £800 per 1000kg that's £244.60 per year in scrap aluminium

4% lager:

2 units per can X 56 cans per week = 112 units per week.

6% lager:

3 units per can X 56 cans per week = 168 units per week.

Recommended units per week = 21 !!

Also at, say, £3.50 for 4 cans X 2 (per day) X 7 = £49 per week.

So, why not drink less, and save money that way :?:

4 litres a night, 365 days in a year that's 1460 litres.

Density of beer is just a tad higher than water, but assume same as water at 1kg/litre, that's 1460Kg.

So that's about a tonne and a half of beer.

He just drank the bleedin' Quattro  ;)

Thanks for the replies, some i know, but didn't want to hear, but looking at the money making side of it, collecting from the neighbours, telling them i save them council tax?, as the council don't do it for nothing?

I'm sure there maybe something in this, or am i dreaming?

My reply was tongue in cheek, no offence intended.

Seems a lot of work for little reward, unless you live in a block of flats with people who drink lots of canned drinks.

I'm guessing you can also get the same money for soft drink cans as well?

Cheers

my f/i/law goes round the family collecting all cans,he then bought a can crusher on ebay for 10 quid, and every night spends about half an hour just crushing them,i ouldnt believe the ammount he does,he weighs it all in on a regular bases and i do belive gets a nice ammount of dosh aswell.

if you drink like that every night you probably suffer from sticky mattress syndrome and do f*ck all all day anyway.
so it'll give them something to do.

If that's pointed at me, that's why i'm asking you muppet

I don't normally resort to insults, my mistake.

a word off warning
you need to check its all ally sometimes they have steel top/bottoms and that slashes there value

no that applies to anyone who can't get out their pit and get a descent job
but always have money for fags/drink.

So, what do you think i should do, stay in bed, get a descent job(as spelled by a service person) or, see what i can make by can collection?
I'm trying with something, which may not be worth a penny to me, and your pulling me down, i all i asked was, is it worth it to attemp this :shock

Any job will do but say, Get a decent job, is a bin man a decent job?.

This is the future of britain, can you not see it?

No need for a magnet! It's simply a case of LOOKING at the can, there is a visual difference. Aluminium cans have shiny bottoms whereas steel cans are dull. I've taught some of the lads at work this simple rhyme-
" shiny good dull bad!"
I've seen in the past stories of people paying mortages with cans but have always been sceptical and if you do the maths it is impossible. If you average a penny a can or so and could pick up 10 every minute of an 8 hour working day that's £48 or 4800 cans which is physically impossible to carry. Then of course you have to deduct your costs to take them to the scrap yard , not forgetting some scrap yards won't take them and it soon becomes clear it's not a ticket to vast wealth. Better to get a job shelf stacking.
I did hear once of an enterprising chap who set up a recycling point outside his house, and just let people bring the cans to him. Now that's a possiblity.
In my younger days I once picked up loads of cans after our local fete after it had finished and was walking home at something like 11.30 pm with 2 bulging bin bags. Well a car pulled up by me and a uniformed gentleman inquired what was in the bags! I suppose in hind sight it did look a mite suspisious but when I showed him he allowed me to go on my way :)
Still best of luck , at least as some think you won't be lying in bed all day. But do try not to drink all the cans contents first
