I have a Beko ecocare washing machine which makes a grinding noise when in use. It still washes OK and the drum moves freely by hand. Its a few years old and I wonder if its worth mending.
If there is a rumbling/grinding sound when you rotate the drum by hand...or there is noticeable up/down slack on the drum then your bearings are shot (uneconomical repair on an old machine). If you hear a tinny/scraping sound when you rotate the drum & there is no up/down slack there could be a bra wire or something else stuck between the drum & tub. Removing the drive belt before checking the above will eliminate any possible motor issues.
