Belfast sink cutting worktop

Have to fit a Belfast sink to an oak worktop. Have a jig on the way. Reading all the blurb about using the jig all the makes seem the same. Namely they state the worktop should overhang the sink by 10mm, both sides and rear. Also that the worktop should be level with a datum line drawn through the front of the sink by half its thickness. I have no idea why these figures have been selected can anyone enlighten me?

There will be nothing scientific behind it. The worktop should overhang the sink, but not too far, so 10mm has been mentioned.

You say should overhang the sink ' but not too far' so what is too far? What is their that negates hanging the worktop over hanging the sink by more than 10mm?

Nothing as far as I am concerned. Bit more is fine but 100mm will just look daft and you won't get a basin in the sink.

I am okay doing it 10mm just wondered who came up with 10mm? The basin has to be lifted up to the worktop under surface using the legs on the cabinet so any overhang is possible.

Well lots do not . I think I will follow these examples easier to get correct than trying to get a 10mm overhang sides and rear.

Yes they all quote to do a drip groove.
Attached is a drawing of my setup. Due to the sink only being 20mm thick setting back 10mm will not work evidenced by A
I will have to adopt one of the methods B or C .
C to my mind is best as none of the drip grove is in contact with the sink.
And finally Trend suggest when using their jig that the drip groove need only be 2.5mm wide.

What would you suggest sealing it with? I have WOCA worktop oil which I was going to use.

C to my mind is best as none of the drip grove is in contact with the sink.

That is what the instructions recommend, a 10mm overhang as in the pictures you showed earlier. What has the the thickness of the sink got to do with it?

I thought it was not a 10mm overhang but a 10mm in the other direction.

Depends whether you intepret a 10mm over hang on the outside or inside edge.
