So I was happily measuring up my loft for some more boarding, and then I noticed that as I sighted down the purlin, you can see a slight bend in it as it goes into the party wall.

The house is ex council 1950s 1960s, semi.

Photos attached. (spot the asbestos tank :D, when I enlarge my loft hatch, that thing is going).

Is this anything I should worry about? Should I snap a chalk line on it and measure its maximum deflection?

(am I just being a bit ol jessie?)

Timber beams under load are subject to long-term deflection-creep.
It's not going to collapse; if you can't see the bend in the roof outside, forget it!

Okay, I feel a bit happier now!

I checked from the outside, and I would be kidding myself if I thought I could see anything. Will do my best to ignore it.
