Hi
Not really "decorated" anything for 10 years and tech has moved on! Lounge has a few wooden bits around a bay window, skirting and some shelves. So will want to do some minor gap filling and painting over.
Not a huge amount so cost not a concern, but what is the best now? Still caulk? or something like stixall?
Thanks :)

Stixall is like silicone to use. You can use water to clean off.
Caulk is easy to use. Cleans with water.
Don't matter which caulk you use just let dry for 48h and unlikely to cause trouble.

Painting caulk too soon and using some durable paints is where the trouble is

I've been recommended Everbuild 125 caulk before and used it/painted over it, works well. Not particularly widely available I found but is stocked by Jewsons and cheap as chips.

Searching before asking did bring up the Everbuild caulk so good to hear its still OK.
So that doesn't crack/move too much? Thats what was putting me off caulk and wondering if the PU stuff (stixall type) is now the done thing. I do love stixall but only used it for sticking :)

Well funny you mention cracking, I used it at the sides and top of a massive built in wall shelf unit, a bit like a bath, the whole thing sank about a mm or so at the top once it was loaded with books so there is a hairline crack at the top, so I guess in retrospect I should have caulked (the top at least) after it was loaded next time, not that you can see it unless you're right next to it but I guess that's not really an issue for you.

I followed the instructions in this thread with regards to priming, then caulking, then painting: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/painting-shelves-unit-where-it-joins-the-wall.632871/
