Customer has a 30 year old faux metal laminated wallpaper

She wants to paint over it with a mid sheen sort of emulsion .....its also multi coloured ....its needs blocking and bonding in my opinion

I have suggested maybe johnstones stain away or something similar to give it a good base and seal it before top coats .....to obliterate the old paper ?

I have done work like this in the past with just a good quality slightly thinned high opacity , high coverage matt ? ......is this still a good approach or is the johnstones type bonding and sealing matt ......or even Zinser Bin red or Coverstain ....

Bin aqua sticks well and great coverage.
My second choice if that was a problem would be coverstain although the smell is a bit much

Thanks , I will price that up for her , if it's a sort of top grade version of the old 123 then that's great

In terms of a bonding , adhesion primer what do you go for ?

Cover stain I note is slow to cure and Bedec All Prime suggests a weeks ?

I like Crown PX4 ....but poor stain coverage

Yeah I use bin aqua. Dries quickly. Sticks well. Stain blocks. Depends on the stain though but I don't think that paper would stain through paint?

No don't thin it. Read data sheet online for advice

It's for future work , if bin aqua is a good all rounder then I will stick with it

For bad staining I use wickes trade stain block , cures overnight
