Best stones to use for pebble dashing then painting

Hi all
can anyone recommend the best stones to use for pebble dashing then painting .
currently taking the old pebble dash off which has seen better days , but prefer the painted finish .
ideally like small stones as possible and want to do it as cheap as possible with the added painting Cost so don’t need anything fancy
