Best way to connect outdoor wooden steps

I am in the process of building some outdoor wooden steps for my back door. Not sure the best way to fix the stringers to the wall below the back door. Would I need to fix a ledger board to the wall and then screw the stringers to that ? Many thanks for your help in advance

Something along those lines a ledger that fits perfectly between the strings, alternatively something the same length as the total width of the stairs and notch over it.
