The a fair amount of water coming down this downpipe splashes past the drain and in to the gravel and on to the wall so it's constantly damp. What is the beat way to sort this? I've looks at various websites but not found any good solutions, any suggestions?

Put the end of the downpipe into the grate with the leaf cover over the top to avoid rainwater splashing on to the wall.

That don't look like a proper shoe, but yes terminate the pipe in the hopper below the grate.

Thanks, it's technically an antisplash shoe I think, but terminating it lower makes sense.
