Hi

I need to do replace a broken window and I had a hack at the old putty tonight with a Stanley knife - with limited success - i.e. the putty is very hard and it is difficult to cut through and i'm gouging the frame. So what's the recommended tool for this operation ? A chisel ? Would probably ruin the chisel and also gouge the frame ? Is there a special tool for this ? If so what - and will it be available in all good DIY stores icon_smile.gif

Thanks for any tips

you've got to use some kind of heat

Heat gun
Iron on very hot
soldering iron

apply the heat to the putty and gouge out with a chsiel or screwdriver as the putty softens. Very laborious but the only way I've used successfully

small chisel and lightly tap it along where the putty joins the window holding the blade flat. Once thats done, give a rub down with sandpaper and prime. It should start to come off quite easily once you start.

thanks guys. I found the heat just made it sticky and had to scrape it out. The chisel worked best it all crumbled out just fine.

Thanks again
