I don't seem to have got to that stage yet.
Just closing the reminder box is all you seem to be able to do.

I'm not a tech wiz but I read on t'net that if you uninstall update KB3035583 it stops the reminders and removes the related Windows icon in the taskbar.

I did this Sunday and it worked. However, Monday morning it had been reinstalled and icon was back.
I uninstalled again and set updates to manual rather than automatic.
Today, Tuesday, it has not returned.

There is also GWX - but I don't know anything about it.

Who knows what they will do to persuade us.

Just had similar Windows 10 Problems, Putor shut down automatically then reinstalled windows 10

If " Big Brother" says you will have Windows 10, windows 10 is what you will get !!

I dunno which is worse...put up with Big Brother Gates or buy an Apple....

No, 7 continues until 2020

XP only finished last year.
Don't know about Vista and 8. There is no 9

It was because you set your " Allow Updates" to "on" so the Putor went ahead and did what it was told.

There's also an option about receiving recommend updates the same way as receiving important ones - which is ticked by default.

There was an option to revert to your older windows if you went for 10 but didn't like it . I installed 10 and went back to XP after a day or two. I have now bitten the bullet & re installed 10 , you do get used to it but it is aimed more at gamers I think.

This is a freeby offering from the reasonably respected Steve Gibson of 'Spinrite' fame.

Mind you, soon the Win 10 free upgrade 'window' may close - Our old Dell 530 Inspiron desktop (Purchased Xmas 2007) with 4GB ram, Intel Core Duo 2.65 MHz Proc', 250GB SSD system 'disk' and surprise - A 250 MB video card (borrows up to 2 GB system memory if needed and available) Runs as before with Win 7 with no discernable shortcomings (Struggles beyond 720p video) following on line upgrade from Win7 Ultimate 64bit to Win 10 Pro 64 bit.

All it needs is 'no fear' using a little extra kit (spare HDD), confidence boosted by using a good execution plan - Backup data, Image system disk - Update.
All can then be re-installed in the event of calamity - imagined or otherwise.

I don't think anyone is saying W10 is no good or they wouldn't want it for itself - although there are genuine reasons why it's not suitable.

The rumour is that MS will charge for regular updates in future.
