bi-fold doors - why dont fitters like them?

we are having a stud wall put up behind which will be an ensuite bathroom. because the ensuite isnt that big im thinking that a bi-fold door will mean we have more space inside when the door is open. but the 2 fitters ive got quotes off have said that bi-fold doors are a bit rubbish and im better off sacraficing space and going for a regular door.

why this opinion? i think it seems like a great space saving solution but i guess they know something i dont?

if fit right bifolds are ok im a joiner and have fitted them in in both my bathrooms and they are fine if thats what you want then tell your joiner thats what you want space saving wise they are great and iv never had any problems with mine or any ive fitted

If the doors you require are the type that run in a metal rail on the head of the frame then a good piece of advice would be to source a sturdy one. The times I have had to look at problems with this type of door, the problem has almost always being caused by cheap runners spreading and the runners coming off.

maybe they have never fitted them before?.
i fitted 1 to my boys room and gave him a few feet more in the room.
as long as they are fitted correctly then i cant see the problem?

ive fitted quite a few in my time.only had problems myself when i hammered in the spline then realized i fitted it in the wrong hole,pig of a job to remove.

Hi there,

Wickes hold a good range of bi-fold doors and they are fairly simple to fit.
I have little spare around my boiler tank cupboard and installed a bi-fold door to utilise the access space when I had the tank removed and turned it into storage space, the door works like a charm.

They can be a pain.

You need to calculate twice the fitting gap and things need to be square.

There are many out there that could say they have fitted bi-fold doors to a decent opening and fitted them adequately.

It takes a lot of patience to fit bi-fold doors to a lousy opening.
