Hi, our Biasi M90E.28S Combi (2002) has stopped heating our water & radiators. We called in a plumber today - who had a look & said we needed a new fan. He has quoted £250 (plus) to replace it.

He said there was a choice of 4 fans - & that he would need to remove the fan & take it to the part suppliers to check which one we need.

He wouldn't say directly the cost of the fan - but said his charges are £45 per hour.

Does all this sound reasonable? We are in the dark about this ...

has he never heard of instructions ?
ie the list of parts that would tell him exactly which fan and part number of it?

has he carried out any other checks, before coming to the conclusion that it's the fan?

Thanks. We had a good look at the user manual and couldn't see any indication of fan type.

Feel reassured that someone feels £250 is ok.

Our plumber had said Biasi were unreliable and that maybe we should think about a new boiler (Valiant Condenser??) given that it is 6 years old. He said lifespan is around 10 years.

We have been happy with it up until now obviously but are they poorly regarded in general? We are in a hard water area ...

Biasi parts are extortionate.

Pump (kit) for a Riva is nearly £180 including vat with entire pump about the £200 mark.

Biasi boilers are not unreliable, if you have got 6 years usage from it and this is the first time it has give you problems, than it as good as most other boilers. As I previosly asked, has your plumber carried out any other checks before coming to the conclusion that it is the fan?

we can't be certain what checks he did as he didn't run through it with us
he didn't seem to use a multimeter or any any big tools but he was looking at it for 10 mins or so

could there be a simpler solution?

if you phoned Biasi direct and orderd a pump it would cost under £150 inclusive of vat and carriage.

It could be a number of problems, but first check to see if the pin is comming out far enough to make the micro switch (provided the pump is working). The micro switch is located on the left of the gas valve. As suggested get a few quotes, or better still get a heatinng engineer who could go through the fault finding process with the proper equipment.

Thanks for all your responses. Didn't mean to sound mistrusting of our plumber ... just wanted to check it all out.

We haven't had anything wrong with the boiler before & we have to be careful with the money side of things.

Will soon know if all ok if boiler starts working.

Much appreciated all !
