Bifold doors flip?

Hi All,

I have a external bifold door that when you look at it the door opens on the left and folds back to the right.

Is there a way to flip this so the bifold door is on the right and folds to the left or is this impossible?

I dont mind paying someone to do it for me but im not sure if its possible, a mate of mine who builds them said hes not 100% but he dosent think you can.

Obviously flipping this would mean i would be able to reuse the door and save so much money as the door is fine. It just wont work with my new layout that i want to do.

As a service engineer the problem I see is when you remove the traffic door from the left and move it to the right it would mean the handle is on the left of the door which is now on the right, you can't simply just flip the door around because you'll also reverse the rebate

YEah but if you like spun it. Then it wudnt be the handle wud be on the right

This is a recent door repair I did, if you just move the door to the right then the handle will be on the left of the door, if you turn the door around so inside is now outside and outside is inside then the rebate will be wrong

So i literally need to buy a new bifold door just to make it go the other way. Seems very odd. So you have to buy 'left' or 'right' opening bifolds instead of universal and fit how u want.

Yes exactly left or right handed, it's not odd at all it's how it is

I mean it is odd.... well i guess its a money making scheme. I can swap my wardrobe bifold door either side, i can swap my internal doors either side, my washer doors swap sides. I just assumed same for an external bifold. Suppose if they did that id just flip it now i have to buy another

Your not grasping what I'm saying, the door is rebated which means flipping it inside out will mean the rebate is on the wrong side. Your wardrobe doors likely don't have a rebate so can be swapped, internal doors don't have a rebate either

External bifold door sets are complex and they can’t swapped usually, the door handle, lock, rebate etc are all location specific

It's not a money making scheme it's how they work.

Interesting that you are having to repair what looks like a quite new installation, any tips as to what to avoid or to watch out for is it the make or the bad fitting
