My flat has a 100cm x 4cm hole on the interior side of the false balcony door. The hole is probably to do with the cavity in the cavity wall. The hole is covered by water proof membrane, concrete, and then glued 2mm vinyl. Some of the concrete is already gone because it sat atop the flexible membrane. Small vinyl planks will make up the new floor atop the old vinyl. Having a big hole below the new floor won't work. So what is the solution in this situation?
I am thinking of laying down a sheet of 1.5mm to 2mm thick mild steel to cover the hole. Then the new floor goes on top of that. The steel sheet will act as a ledge over the hole, but it will only be supported on the side of the hole away from the door. The sheet dimension will likely be 100cm x 25cm or 100cm x 50cm. Any mileage to this arrangement?
