Hello,

Firstly, thank you to everyone for all the helpful advice you've given me regarding laying the sub base for the patio I want to do in my garden.

I'm now looking at a top covering and I do like the look (and the price) of pea gravel. I've been made aware of the issues you can get with it moving around and not staying in place.

I was wondering if anyone had used any resin binding agent to stop it moving around, does it work well? I've also heard of people mixing in bits of cement when they lay it, does that work well?

Other top layers really are so expensive and I do have a large area to cover (circle with a 5.7m diameter) so anything I could do to get a cheaper top covering like pea gravel would be good for me.

Pea gravel is cheap but not if you add resin binder or a plastic retaining mat .

A mate of mine made a slurry using cement based tile adhesive to stop his pea shingle sliding on his old paving slabs. He said it worked well.

Ok it's something I can look into. I must admit I haven't even looked at the cost of the resin binder.
