Birds Entering through Eaves

Hi All,

I have an issue with some House Sparrows entering my loft in between the fascias and the roof. I hear them during the night rustling in the eaves area. Once they have left, I was thinking of using mortar up there but then realised it might be too tricky since I have a conservatory underneath. Now I have thought about expanding foam (obviously using sparingly) by spraying each gap using some sort of piping. I do have access on both sides of the conservatory but the pipe would come in handy to attack the middle sections. Has anyone encountered the issue with the sort of roofing attached? If so, how did they solve it? There seems to be a multitude of different things including netting, tape, mortar etc... Cleaning the gutters will be the next step

I am undecided on whether to do it myself or get someone in at the moment. Any help would be appreciated. I am in Warrington. Thanks.

Comb Filler
I see underlay support trays are fitted and I doubt original.
When the roof was tiled it would have had a filler fitted, either of aluminium or plastic. these may have been discarded by who ever fitted the UST
FWIW the tile looks like a Marley Bold roll

Hi, thanks for this. This is just the reply I needed, comb filler, never heard of it before you mentioned it...is that all that is needed, essentially to cram in between the underlay and roof?

You're quite right, those trays were fitted when the new gutters and soffits were fitted a few years back.

The comb filler sits on top of the underlay support tray. it'll need securing or eventually it could fall out into the gutter.

Ok, thank you very much for this information. The only issue I foresee like you mentioned, how to fix down the fillers over the conservatory. I want to avoid scaffolding if at all possible. Otherwise may just leave it to professionals. Trouble is, finding someone reputable in my immediate area that offers to do it for a reasonable cost...

If anyone can recommend anyone in the Warrington area to quote on this job, please do let me know.

Are you sure that aren't just nesting? Are the actually entering the loft? Sparrows & birds need all the nesting sites they can get, modern houses probably won't be providing nesting opportunities.

Hi. Unfortunately I found 1 rogue bird in the actual loft space. Again a house sparrow. It disappeared as soon as I saw it. Need someone to really fit comb fillers once these birds have dispersed. I'd fit them myself if it wasn't for the conservatory in the way
