Hi all

I am unsure on the type of flooring I have here. I’m self levelling so need to know what it is before priming etc.

Would you say it looks like bitumen?

Many thanks

It looks like an old flooring adhesive, possibly bitumen.
It doesn't have any imprints from gluing square vinyl tiles, so it may have been holding down some lino?
As with any bitumen adhesive of that age, there is the possibility of it containing asbestos.
The risks associated with it are extremely low, so don't worry about it; just be aware!

Great; I’ll treat it as bitumen floor and apply a self level compound prior to tiling.

Many thanks again

Could it also be the DPC?
If so, repair it.

My house had no other membrane other than the bitumen on the slab. (Obviously had a DPC in the walls)
