I have an old fridge freezer in an outhouse. I noticed black bits of what looked like insulation on the floor near the back of the unit a week ago. I think a mouse has been at work and nibbled away this piece of insulation..which about 12" length at the rear of the bottom freezer section behind the "cooling grille" assembly (condensor coil?) and placed over a 6mm pipe.
War on the mice is on-going..some victims already. Today pulled out the f/f and it has badly damaged this pipe insulation which is a light foam type similar to some I've seen in cars.
I'm not sure how important the insulation is? As a quick fix I've slipped on some grey 15mm hot-water pipe insulation but it's bigger external diameter (as well as internal) means it's quite tight to the cooling grill assembly when that is screwed back up to the rear of the unit and that gets warm..if not hot.
Should I replace it with the right stuff?..and if so what is it?.. and where can I source it?
