Done a search on here and came up with nothing...

My father is doing up a run down property. Under the floor he has found a CW Supply pipe to kitchen etc, which is black plastic, flexible, and has some solvent welded fittings on it... He wants to add to it in convensional fittings (copper/brass/ even push fit) ..

I did an internet search and found out (correct me if this is wrong - this product is ABS and was used as an alternative when there were copper shortages in the '70s and '80s...?

The question -

Where would one purchase an adaptor to change the fitting type and how do we cut / finish the joints? (pipe is just larger than a 15mm copper pipe)

Hope someone can give me a speedy reply so we can crack on...

My local place Lunns.net sell a full range of fittings and the glue. never seen it in black though.

Needs 24 hours before you pressure test, I would rip the lot out and replace if you can

Really would not recommend messing with that stuff; replace the lot before it is too late.

definitely black! I thought the rip the lot out option but would need three floor up. So exploring all options...

A Plumber will be able to spot if it's the old solvent tube, you can't use inserts for it, only the glued adaptors. Provided we are talking abou tthe same pipe of course. I have dealt with it a few times over the years.

As its solvent fittings now, I assume thats the adaptor I need, just where to get them from and the extra cost of solvent and cleaner etc to go with it...

post a pic of the tube / fitting

the stuff was all over the north east of england 25 years ago

down the south they where still trying to figure out how lead worked

It's not too bad, give the guys at Lunns a call, they are the only people in probably a 100 mile radius from me that sell it (probably more)

That must be why you suggested using inserts with it  ;)

You don't use inserts with the old solvent stuff, or compression for that matter.
