I have a Vaillant Ecotec 831 and today noticed that on the inside of the boiler the spark electrode that goes into the heat exchange the bit just after the electrial push bit has turned black with soot.

Is this normal? or do I have a problem? (boiler still under warranty for a few more months)

Thanks

Teh boiler should have a two year warrantee and have been serviced at the end of the first year.

At the service the engineer should have checked the spark gap and cleaned the insulator.

You can wipe it clean yourself.

Its unusual for the insulator to get bery dirty unless you are burning candles or camphor.

I am asuming you mean the insulator on the outside of the combustion chamber!
