I've seen a few odd things he's done over the years in the shows. Like goofing up & chopping through a live cable.

He's the bodging cheeky chappy who lowers the impression of our branch of engineering. He wasn't even an electrician in the sense of construction - he was a 'best boy'.

hard to say without seeing lower half, but looks like there is possibly a socket on a 2.5mm ring located on the wall below that switch, so he has run the cable from the socket up the wall to a ceiling void, then located the light switch next to the vertical run for the socket...and grouped the cables together above the switch.

But have to say regardless.. I dont like the way that looks lol... im sure it could of been done neater and tidier than that... bit of a bodge, tommy walsh has been known to do stuff which contavenes the regs on tv before.

It sets a bad example because millions of viewers might see the program over a period of time and they see it, think thats correct way to do things and do the same in their house.

Which is bad practice for several reasons, firstly it's unnessacerally grouping cables together. Secondly the safe zones from an accessory only apply to cables from THAT accessory so the safe zone from the switch doesn't apply to the socket cables and depending on the exact location of the socket (asusming this does feed a socket) the cables from it may well be outside the safe zone formed by the socket.

Is that true - and, if so, why? If a zone is deemed to be 'safe', isn't it an equally 'safe' place for any cable, regardless of what it's connected to?

Kind Regards, John
