Block Paving advise

HI, can anyone help me.
im block paving my drive and have taken up the tarmac, and under the tarmac theres the hardcore see pic,
is it ok to compact this and put the 50mm of sand on it. i only ask becuase it seems really lose (but then i have not compacted it yet)
just wanted to make sure, as ive not done this before, any help would be very greatfull

You need at least 150mm depth of hardcore, I don't see a problem using this or blending it in with other hardcore, but you do need a depth 150mm, before your lay your bed of sand.
So no point compacting it until you have your hardcore depth right.
