Hi, I just had some block paving lifted and put back as it had sunk where I drive on it near the garage. Now there is a gap which is up to 1 inch in places between the block paving and the garage base. The job is not finished and the landscaper plans to fill the gap by pointing with mortar. prior to being lifted the blocks were tighter to the garage, maybe 2mm and filled with sand. The blocks near the garage are laid on a bed of mortar so not an easy job to lift them again. I drive in and out of the garage daily so am worried they will rock loose if not braced to the garage. I'm not convinced mortar should fill the gap as I think it is bonding to the actual garage floor and and not easy to get off without damaging the garage if it needs removing or crumbles over time etc. I think the gap is too big for sand. I have an idea of asking the landscaper to cut thin slices of block pave and insert into the gaps with some sand. I really have no idea though. What do the experts here think? A quick answer would be good as the landscaper is coming back in a day or two. The first image shows a before and after, the second image shows the gap zoomed out

Just look at blockwork in public spaces, and the expert way even small slivers are cut to fit round objects like manhole covers. It's about the original laying out which is tricky but can and should achieve the blocks butting up to the wall. There's space to cut full size blocks down.
