Hi the retaining wall at the back of my garden has collapsed - it was 2.4m high.
I have excavated the hardcore and chippings and have been wondering what I can put there that will last longer.
If I place gabion baskets there instead of a concrete block retaining wall I think this would be a good solution, but I will need to relay the block paviors on top of it.
Do you know what the best solution would be to provide a solid base to lay the block paving on top of the gabion baskets?
Thanks

2.4m is a lot to retain. Have you had the gabion basket retaining wall designed?

if you're careful with the stone placement there isn't anything stopping you laying concrete in the top of the basket; you just need to be careful to set it behind a decorative layer sufficient to hide it

I would be very wary of laying anything rigid on gabions, more importantly as mentioned, anything of that height needs designing irrespective of it's make up not some finger in the air nonsense.

2.4m needs to be designed by a structural engineer. It is likely that it will need to be terraced for strength.

I can't see why not, you will need to leave it to settle a bit before laying anything as its likely to keep sinking for a while.
