After drilling out plugs in these crumbly old walls how best to get ride of all the dust in there before filling?

A length of tubing.

Push one end into the hole and blow into the other end.

That way your mouth can be some distance from the hole when the dust comes out.

If you are removing plugs there is very little dust left behind, you can just fill.

It will only "vac out" if there is some way that air can get to the end of the hole to create a flow from back of hole into the vacuum cleaner.

It's easy.

You put the nozzle half-way across the hole. The vortex of spinning air disturbs the dust and the vac sucks the dust out

Time you tried it.

There are plugs in them but the walls are old and crumbly. I wet them and then filled them. By the way, should u blow out the dust when putting in new plugs as well after drilling?

once you have drilled them, just turn the drill sideways and power it up, use the air blown out of its vents to blow the holes out.
Or use the vacuum that you'd have to use after the above to clean them out in the first place :)
