Is there anything I can use to treat brickwork which has recently started to deteriorate?
The face of some bricks just above floor level outside has dropped off and I'd like to take some remedial action to save the rest & prevent the problem getting worse.

thats the reason builders use engineering standard bricks below the d.p.c., and why we have the 150mm rule.
short term, you could paint on an exterior silicone based protector which may help.
long term, remove the bricks, four stretchers at a time, and replace with engineering bricks.

you mean the floor of the house? Then they should be above the dpc.

How far above the ground are they, and are they subect to splashing, e.g. from a leaky gutter?

The bricks are above the dpc but there are flags around the perimeter of the house so there might be some splashing but my roof overhangs (dormabung)& keeps most of it off.
By the way, all the garden walls have been made from the same brick and are completely shot. These are beyond repair.

If you can lay your hands on a digital camera and put up a pic, someone will recognise it. Could be frost damage to a damp brick.

Sorry JohnD
Meant to say blown brick faces are directly below dpc and a course above the flags.
