We have an old door way that has been ready to board over for quite some time. One side is done but have an issue with this side. Stud work was fitted about 4 years ago.
Im looking to board over now but there is a discrepancy as shown in the pics. One side the board fits flush as it should but the other side the board sits back.

whats that best thing to do?

the top plate shows water stains, & various fixings show rust - there was or is a moisture issue here.
all rusty fixings must be removed and replaced.

to help when taping and skimming the wall then using a knife, cut away all the rough edges around the opening.

cut a made to measure single sheet of p/board and pre-fix some screws in it.
then pack out the studwork with thick dollops and snakes of a gunned on adhesive -
then gently ease into place the pre-cut sheet of plasterboard and flush it even all the way around where it meets the surrounding plaster.
only set the screws enough to hold the board - tighten them up later.
the p/b can even be a little low in places - the skim will take that up.

wash the whole wall with 2 x coats of Pva, tape the outline and skim the whole wall.

Fix the boards on, tape the joins, bring flush with bonding plaster then skim.

Thanks

I believe the timbers were old reused ones but are in sound condition.
