boiler and central heating working fine' No hot water.

have a potterton suprima 40 boiler 20 years old, just had a new port valve fitted. boiler and central heating working great, but no hot water. I have a EP2002 controller, and both HW & CH light up when switched on. pipes are hot up to the port valve, they stay hot when branching off to the radiators, and to the hot water tank, but doesn't seem to be going into the tank it's self.
the engineer who fitted the port valve said the problem was electrical, had a second guy come out and look at it' he couldn't fine the problem, he tested the electrics and said they are working fine. ? the hot water tank only works form the boiler being on and from the controller switch to HW on. as in one of the pictures I have posted in the bottom left hand corner their is a thermostat controller, but it doesn't light up? did mention this to both engineers, but they didn't seem to think it was the problem, don't want to keep phoning repair men and keep getting the they can't help, would be greatfull for any help that's out there.

Turn off all rads but one.
Put the heating on.
Manually latch the valve open.

If you get hot water going into the cylinder then the 3 port is either knackered or the wiring is wrong.

hi, is there any specific radiator' upstairs / down stair that i should leave on, when you you say manually latch the valve' I assume you are talking about the port valve?

stop calling it a port valve, it is a mid position valve, a 2 port valve is a different thing, yes set the lever to maual and see if the pipes to the cylinder heat, but if the demand light is not coming on at the cylinder thermostat you have an electrical problem or it isnt wired right

I hope you have no intension to invite either 'engineer' back again.

It's not difficult to diagnose, you just need to get a proper heating engineer with a bit of a clue, to look at it.

Just leave one single radiator fully on, whilst you try manually latching the lever on the 3-port valve actuator. You need to have a call for central heating, so the CH stat also needs to be set to maximum.

hi Harry, No I don't 1st, one was a local company, who carried out the repair and got the heating back on, but no hot water' then he tells me it's electric problem and he doesn't do electric? second was a big national company, who couldnt find the problem.

As a rule of thumb dont get electricians to look at heating control wiring, some are really good some sparks on here are really good, but they are in the minority, if the demand light is not coming on at the Cyl thermostat , then the mid position valve does not know that HW is required
