Hi.

I have just received the quote for all the materials that are going to be used for the central heating system and the boiler that has been chosen by Plumbase is a Viessmann vitodens 100 35kw.

I am going to be renting the property out, so the last thing I want is to be having problems with the boiler.

Is this brand any good or should I look for something else. They are just under £1000, so would it be worth buying a different brand for around the same price.

Cheers.

Normally an installer makes the recommendation, Plumbase are merchants and are not heating engineers. They do things like stock control, price lists, margins, deliveries. Boiler installation is not one of their specialisms.

If i were in your shoes, I would be looking for a reliable with a long warranty backed up by a recognised brand.

Viessmann are a good choice, however at the moment certain Worcester Gold level installers are getting a 7 year warranty on Greenstar Si and CDi boilers.

This would swing it for me. No repairs till 2019, that is compelling.

yes the 100 seems to be a decent boiler...and with a viessmann approved installer the guarantee is 5 years.

worth bearing in mind that its only worth having 35kw if you have in excess of 15l/m in the incoming mains, which is unlikely or a big house (and I mean big)

No combi can really supply two hot outlets at a time, so I would suggest a 24kw one...

worth bearing in mind that the 100s, along with other low cost boilers, are not sold in Germany... make what you will of that...but its one reason why I don't install them

I agree with going for the Worcester, although I've had good reports on the Viessmann.

As a registered installer - You will get the 5yr warranty with the Worcester, but that can be upgraded to 7yrs as an option. :)

Thanks guy's for the advice.

The installer is a friend who has been qualified for only 18 months. I don't know if he is an approved installer.

I'll have to check if he is and for what. He isn't doing me any favours on the price, I decided to use him because he is a friend, but I have checked out some of his work and it is very good. I have also spoken to people who have used him and they have nothing but good things to say.

Cheers.

The 5-year warranty is so valuable, that I think it is worth making a point of using an approved installer. There is (was) a list on the Viessmann website. Viessmann provide a free short training course for installers wishing to be approved.

Obviously he must be gas-safe registered as well.

I have the older model of Vitodens 100, from 2008, it recently had its first ever repair, parts-and-labour free under warranty, so I am quite pleased.

The Viessmann Vitodens 100 series come with five year warranty as standard regardless of who fits it.
It's their 200's that require a Viessmann trained installer to extend the warranty from three to five years.

you're in Algeria, how do you know that the terms of the guarantee have changed over here?

Thanks for pointing that out John I wondered were all that sand was coming from.

I've spoken to him and confirmed that he is an approved installer for Worcester.

As I am planning to rent the property out the warranty is a major factor to me. It's a three bed dormer bungalow, so it's not that big.

Would a less powerful (28kw) Worcester boiler be a better choice than the 35kw Viessmann.

As I said, he hasn't been doing this for a long enough time to have the experience to advise me.

Cheers.

you're going for a combi, which will give a decent shower if the flow from the main is good enough. run the kitchen tap into a bucket, time it, and see how many litres per minute you get.

combis are quite slow at filling a bath.

Alot of these 5 year + warrantys have yet to be tested ? way I see it , alot of them probably do not amount to much , other than to flog the boiler ( maybe ?) & some are going to be dissapointed !!

As I said, he hasn't been doing this for a long enough time to have the experience to advise me.

He's been qualified for 18 months and still can't advise you what size boiler you need, or which makes are good and which ones aren't? Really!? If that's the case, run away while you still can and get someone in who actually knows what they're talking about. He's clearly not interested enough in his job to spend time finding these things out, or keeping his ear to the ground in any way at all. Does he even know how to work out your mains flow rate and pressure, and how this might affect your choice of boiler?

Go with Viessmann, better and cheaper than worcestor, wouldn't fit worcestor if it was half price
