Hello all,

My boiler is a Myson Apollo 40Si about 10 years old. My landlord serviced it almost 2 years ago. Because of the cold weather I changed the thermostat to high. The water came out really hot and the radiators are hot too. The only problem is that the boiler on off cycle (fire, re-fire) is about 20 seconds!!! i.e. is working for 20 seconds, stops 20 seconds and refire again and so on... Is this normal? It has been always like that and I was using it in low, but now with the cold I had to change it to high. I think I'm wasting too much gas and imagine if I have my boiler on all night with this short cycles.

Can anyone give me a hint of possible problems?

Thanks for your help,

JBart

Probably nearer 20 years old!

By law, the landlord has to have the boiler checked every 12 months. You should be provided with a copy of the "Gas Safety Record" Certificate.

It's the landlord's responsibility to maintain the boiler and get the problem sorted. It's not a good idea to try and fix it yourself as the landlord could easily say you have caused the problem.

It could be a faulty thermostat, which needs a Gassafe Engineer to check and replace.

One thing you can check is the pump speed setting. It should be on 3.
