since I’ve built my rear lean to extension the boiler flue now goes inside the extension area, which has a roof but no doors and windows and wide openings for patio doors etc.
I’m desperately trying to chase up plumbers to move the boiler, but I’m getting worried if the heating needs to go on before it gets moved, is there a danger of getting carbon monoxide somehow working it’s way back into the house? There are no obvious “gaps” in existing house walls that I can see but worried all the same. Not really sure what I’m asking to be fair, other than is it a definite no no to put the heating on in this situation?
Fingers crossed it will be a non issue as will have been able to pin plumber down by the time it gets “cold”

We did a job like that a few years back -the existing flue had to stay until the new extension was built as that was where the new boiler was to be positioned.

I bought a couple of carbon monoxide alarms and was careful to carry out a risk assessment.

If you have no doors or windows there should be no risk of carbon monoxide build up -but a few alarms arent much money for peace of mind.

Is your boiler not on now for heating water?

Thanks notch. Yes it’s on for showers etc, which I’ve kinda been turning a blind eye to. I did also think of CO alarms, but it’s obv not ideal. Fingers crossed I will get it moved soon.

Try asking in ‘“plumbing”.
I would also worry a bit about the boiler breathing in its own exhaust gas, rather than fresh air; this can’t do it much good.
And the acidic condensation on your new strucutre.

I had a similar situation having built my side garage "around" my flue. It was ok but I kept the house door shut and didn't fit the garage door till the boiler was relocated.
I doubt the professionals on the heating board would be able to do anything other than condem your proposal. The fact that you are aware of the risk says a lot - not like an acquaintance of mine who built a lean-to workshop over the flue (one of those old big square stainless steel things) and told me how cosy and warm it was in the winter!
