During recent bad weather had a problem with ice from gutter melting and dripping onto balanced flue, then re-freezing and blocking flue. Nailed a piece of closure plate above it to prevent drips onto flue. It works OK but not pretty and rattles in wind. No one seems to make a professional looking shield - any ideas? thanks

PS. Snow was foot thick on roof/gutters, everything blocked solid with ice (lasted more than a month this year). Flue is more than 1m below gutter and shield is nailed directly below gutter

Clear your gutters and down pipes might be a start

Thats because they mostly don't allow shields/covers to be fitted directly above the flue terminal(subject to minimum clearances) which are in the MI's.This cover if too close could affect flue/boiler performance.

Strange way of working to "repair" one fault ( defective guttering ) with creating another fault ( a metal plate blocking the normal functioning of the flue ).
Maybe it's an idea to get a pro out to make everything work properly and safe again.
