Hi, my friend is looking to put a boiler in a ground floor Utility and would like the flue to come out of the roof to avoid nuisance plume into the garden and car store. I assume the flue could run up through the floor above (boxed in) and out of the roof, provided that the boxing is accessible for routine maintenance and servicing?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Many thanks

Your friend should read and follow the guidelines in the instruction manual for the boiler.

God, they're all out tonight

Or all in looking at DIYnot.... sad gits...

Any help or do none of you know?

We're not looking to re-invent the wheel here - just run a flue through the first floor to roof? Maybe its the first of it's kind!

AS said manufactures instructions should be sought.

What boiler as a matter of interest. :D , length between boiler/flue terminal?

Vaillant Ecotec 46kW
Flue length - approx 3.8m in total (2.6m through first floor)

Manufacturers instructions will give you the info you need regards flue length / supports etc.

It probably can be run like you describe but the boxing MUST be removable or at least have inspection hatches fitted so each flue joint can be inspected.

But surely Jon26, you friend is going to have the boiler installed by a gas registered engineer and its not to be some kind of DIY job?

The installer will have the required information to do the work correctly in accordance with the regulations!
