Hi all

I came across this site when Google searching to try and solve my problem, someone else posted something similar but it didn't really help me so thought I'd post myself.

I live in a flat that is all electric, thought I'd worked out the timer system to turn the boiler on for hot water, but we've just had smart meters installed and there are bursts of energy usage at odd times (the flat is empty for near enough 12 hours a day). No heaters are on switched on or anything like that. I wondered if it might have something to do with the boiler and the settings - I have no idea if I've set it up right/in the most sensible way.

I've attached an image of the boiler and the console bit. I basically put that bottom switch on when I leave so it lights up, set the other switch from 'off' to 'timed' and time it for say 4pm-5pm. I put that little dial to 'timed boost' (there's also a manual boost option), but maybe this isn't right? The other two options to put it on are 'timed on' and 'timed off'. Maybe I should just leave it on the 'timed on' setting. I do find the 'off-peak' light lighting up when I switch the console on in the morning.

There's also another switch similar to the first further along the wall, I'm not sure if it's related? Maybe this is the one I should have on to control the boiler, and the one I've been turning on is a 'boost' switch? I don't know, I'll post a photo in a moment.

As you can tell this is not my forte at all and I'd really appreciate any expert help anyone could give me!

Cheers!

Mods please move this to the central heating thread if more appropriate - I didn't see it earlier. Thanks.

I would be better if you could post a photo so the legend on the control is readable.

Boilers are the most common way of generating heat. Recently, my aunt also faced the boiler issue. Its flow rate is inadequate and switched on/off frequently. On someones recommendation she decided to take help from the experts. A professional boiler repair service Morristown NJ is guaranteed to get the system back in operation quickly for continued comfort within your home.

Before suspecting the immersion heater and controls (you don't have a boiler!), the best thing to do would be to heat up your water, manually switched, in the morning before you leave, so that you have a cylinder full of hot water for when you return, and then switch the whole system off using the main isolator (fused spur). If the energy boosts are still apparent on your smart meter when you return home, you know it is nothing to do with your HW or CH.

you have a fully pumped system that is designed to be heated by the gas boiler with the electric immersion heater as a back up to give you HW in the event of your boiler failing

Eh? He said it was ALL electric!
