Our boiler has been leaking at a very fast rate. Approximately falling from 2bars of pressure to about 0.5 over a period of one week. The speed at which the pressure is lost has increased over time since we moved in.

We reported this to our landlord when we first moved in and they had a plumber look at it who said that this was normal and that the boiler was just too small for our house.

However I dont beleive this too be true and from reading these forums that rate of pressure loss is concerning.

Also a heating bill is very high and I expect this to be related to the pressure leak. Would I be right?

Since it is very obvious there is a serious leak would I be right in saying that in order to fix it every inch of pipe would need to be inspected meaning a lot of maintanence work?

The reason we ask is we are about to sign a new contract with the landlord, but if the boiler problem is going to need a lot of mainanence work to fix we may just move house.

The water leak will have nothing to do with fuel consumption.

Its likely to the the expansion vessel needing repressurising but since you have given no details of boiler make or model I cannot guess further.

Landlords often use very cheap plumbers instead of specialist boiler engineers.

I suspect the pressure relief valve is leaking to the vent. You can check this by putting a bottle over it for a day or two and see whats inside.

a drip can cause a boiler to lose pressure over night. but then again a leak is a leak and it needs finding and repairing. Expansion vessel may be at faulty if you can't find a leak inside the house.

If it is a landlord property then he should have a landlord gas safety inspection done on an annual basis. This is the law. You should have a certificate to prove this. If you don't have one then get onto your landlord and get a proper corgi reg installer round to check it all out. sounds like this guy has not got a clue what he is on about to me.
