Boiler makes banging noises when igniting

hi,
our boiler makes about 7-8 banging noises in succession when it fires up in the morning - after that it is fine - i think it should ignite silently and only once - can anyone advise on what needs to be done ?!

Does the banging sound like its igniting and going out repeatedly, or more likely, water boiling noises?
