I have a five-year old Potterton combi boiler wall mounted in the kitchen and every few hours (that it's running) it make the most horrific 'gurgling' noise - like water is being sucked in somewhere. It's been happening on and off for a while now.

Sometimes a little steam comes out the top too and sometimes the red 'locked' light comes on.

Any ideas greaty appreciate (before I try and get hold of our plumber!)

Hi,

I've took the front off and I think it's called a Combi 80.

The pressure gauge shows the black on 1 and the red on 1.5.

Hope this helps.

The steam will be coming out of the automatic air vent on the top left of the boiler. The lockout light is coming on due to the severe boiler overheating.

A common reason for this is a stuck hot water flowswitch - does it tend to do it after you have drawn off hot water - check the burner goes out as soon as the tap is closed.

Another posibility may be the pump partially jamming from time to time.

Only use your plumber if he is a corgi reg. boiler engineer.

When I run the hot water then close the tap - the boiler keeps going for about 20 seconds. I assume this is not correct.

I'll give my plumber man a ring after the holiday weekend.

Thanks Gasguru
