Hi what can it be when a boiler is making a banging sound every 30 mins. Well did it twice till it was turned off. The boiler wasn't on for heating and no hot taps were open (Its a combi). I originally thought maybe kettling but ruled this out as the heating wasn't on. One other note the pressure had dropped down to 0. But guess this couldn't cause it?

Well the boiler should not be on zero pressure for a start.
What type/make/model of boiler is it?
A common problem relates to the ignition electrode, but you will need a registered gas engineer to look at, legally you are not allowed to touch it, unless gas safe registered.

Thanks,iIts a vokera maxin 24e. Yes will likely be getting a service just wanted to rule out the low pressure. And maybe get a general idea of what it maybe so don't get ripped off.

quite an old boiler so get someone who knows the boiler as it has a few quirks which wont be checked just doing an annual service, if it does the banging that you complain of try taking a video of it on your phone and post it on here and we should be able to help you out a bit better

If you Employ a proper qualified heating engineer that takes pride in his work, can't see him ripping you off

Its the user responsibility to keep the pressure topped up to about 1.5 bar.

Don't understand why you don't think that's necessary.
