Boiler Noise

I have a 15 year old system based around a Barlo Balmoral 55F boiler. Just before Christmas I descaled the system with Fernox DS40. Afterwards it ran silently but recently has become very noisy again.

With the rush of Christmas I didn't put any protection chemicals in after I'd done the descaling but I would never have thought it could have scaled up again so quickly. What does anyone think about this? Could it really be a scale problem? Is it likely there's something else amiss?

Thanks.

Rog.

What sort of noise? gravel tipping about, boiling, banging...?

Is the ch water supply ok?
Are you having to bleed rads at all now?

I don't want to use the phrase but I suppose it sounds like it's kettling. It's a roaring sort of a noise when the boiler gets hot.

I don't have to bleed the radiators, no.

Thanks for your interest.

Did you drain the anti-scaler out of the system? Just a thought.

I am told that kettling is a big problem with "mature" installations; I am also told that there is no real way do dispose of it, without replacing the boiler.

Hmmm A plumber mate had this sort of story with his system. Boiler Silencer helped a bit, worth a try. Does the boiler have a thermostat? If so does it make the noise with the stat lower. If so check/replace the stat - could be too high a temp.
The mate changed his boiler but plumbed it in wrongly so the new one boiled too (trapped air). With the NEXT replacement boiler he found out what he'd done wrong and it's ok now. Want a perfectly good secondhand boiler by any chance

I've brought the boiler thermostat down to 1 or 2 now from 5 before. It helps as it turns off quicker and I don't have to endure the noise for so long but no solution.

If you had to suggest a chemical solution to put into the system what would you suggest?

Thanks.

DS40 shifts a lot, but you could try Fernox or Sentinel Boiler Descale. Different from DS40 and you can leave them in (check the instrs). I think they both do a separate Boiler Silencer.

Commercially they use Hydrochloric Acid, but it *****s copper.

I assume the ***** mean dissolve or something...

"******"
--- that's the fizzing noise as you make copper chloride solution with your pipework
