can anyone answer a quick question for me please? I had a new combi boiler installed 2 days ago, the installer ran the condensate pipe along my worktop exiting into my kitchen sink an inch from out cold water tap/drinking water. Is this actually safe? My daughter feels ill I just hope its nothing to do with this overflow pipe? Thanks for any help on this.

Well if the condensate isn't going into the water you're drinking it can't be making you ill, it's not going to jump through the metal tap into the water inside it. Having said that this is a terrible way of running an condensate and I would question the quality of the rest of the installation. Was your installer Gas Safe Registered? Did you see their GSR card?

if that post is not a **** take then it should be

didn't see any cards as man was sent by my landlord and I just assumed all would be legit. Have told the kids not to use the tap as a glass could go under both tap and pipe. Hope no one in this house has! He is going to change it on sunday after an argument with him telling me its perfectly safe and legal. apart from anything else its damn ugly! This might sound stupid but it doesn't give off any fumes does it?

hmmmm maybe, in the mean time envisage boiler 2 metres from sink, and I've only just tiled to end up with a big ugly white pipe and total freak out when people tell me this pipe seeps acid!

It's not much more acidic than rainwater, don't be too alarmed by that part, does sound like a crap installation though, a picture would be good

i think the gas safe register, trading standards and local building control would find this install interesting. it could be run into the waste system below the sink.

I think we are all waiting with baited breath to see some pics of this outstanding install, please please please post pics

ok, I'm new to this site so I've just got to figure out how, I'm just glad its not unsafe!

Sorry to sound critical of Abi but he should have learnt that anyone fitting a boiler should be gas registered and show a card if requested.

He has a right to call Gas Safe to inspect if has any concerns.

Also he should have a copy of a current Gas Safety Certificate and if he moved in during the last year an electrical and an energy efficiency certificate.

So Abi, what do you have?

Tony
