I have an Icos Ideal HE18 boiler which I've had lots of problems with. To cut a long story short, I have two queries to which I'd like some advice please:
1) When the central heating comes on, the boiler fires up for about 20 mins and then stops, presumably when it reaches the temperature set on the thermostat in my front room (22 degrees). Once the boiler does this, it switches off (rests) for about three minutes and then fires up again before switching off again after five minutes. This then happens continuously until it switches off by itself (via the timer) or I manually turn it off. Is this how boilers normally work, with this stop-starting every few minutes once it reaches a temp on a thermostat?
2) The boiler, until recently, was making a loud kettling noise. This seems to have now been remedied after one of many engineers I called out lowered the position of my boiler (there was a problem with the piping, apparently) and put some cleaning solution into the heating system. The engineer is returning next week to take out the solution from the system as I gather this is what needs to happen. My question is could the kettling noise be anything other than gunk/debris or air in the system?
I'm a newbie, so please be gentle with me - but I'd be extremely grateful for any advice. Ta.
