Boilermate 2000 problems with Ideal Classic FF340

My problem is that my Boilermate does not seem to fire my boiler ALL the time. If I manually switch off my Ideal Classic for a period and then switch it on when I need heat it fires up and happily heats my hot water or central heating. However, if I leave my boiler on (as im supposed to) it will switch off and maintain the temperature for a while. By the morning, when I want a shower or central heating it doesnt fire up. Naturally I get the same if I have heating in the morning, get to temperature, leave the system on and then need heating in the evening.... no joy. The only solution seems to switch it off and wait patiently for hours.

I have the emergency back up version but do not want to use this to have a shower in the morning.. i have read many blogs on this and was hoping someone might have the answer.

Note: Following an annual service by a Corgi engineer I have been reliably informed that my Ideal Classic is in perfect order. However, I can't get hot water on demand or central heating on demand.

When it is supposed to fire, but doesn't, check for 240VAC at the boiler terminal block.

If it is there it is a boiler problem, if it is not it is a controls/boilermate problem.

Thanks Dave. I do always have power at the boiler when I switch it on manually. After it 'settles' following doing its job it will reignite a few times to keep central heating up to temp i.e. when in high demand. It is after this period of activity it goes quiet and wont come back until its switched off for a long period. I am suspecting the boiler mate not sending a signal but have no idea what it could be.

I would be grateful if anyone has an idea what it might be. I have checked and Gledhill offer fixed price report for less than £300. I am hoping (realistically I hope even more) that its a cheap sensor to replace and that i shouldnt go for the Gledhill repair i.e. end up £240 out of pocket in excess.

rich i think you may have hit nail on head with your previous post about signal

my only experience of this problem was on a Micron 50/mate 2000 set up on that the boiler thermostat had to be on maximum otherwise the system would not heat up the water
spoke at length with Gleds at the time and they admitted some boilers are not suited to the mate because of modulation

Whilst I agree that the boiler should be set to maximum with a Boilermate, the Classic does not modulate its burner.

If the boiler is already at max on its stat, then it would outwardly appear the boilermate board is not getting the signal from the store sensor to tell the boiler to fire, or it is, but the board may be faulty.

Get your MI's out, follow them closely and put the BM into diagnostic mode, the readout should hopefully point you to a possible fault if there is one.
