I noticed this corrosion on the boot lid of our jaguar today. There is no damage there and never has been as far as I know. I can't find any other signs of it anywhere else on the car.

Given that the car is aluminium is it going to be a nightmare to fix. Perhaps it's time to get rid?

Thats the million dollar question....at least corroding aluminium won't destroy the panel like conventional rust would, but its winter salt that gets in and does the damage.
Its an easy enough job for a body shop to do, what is a shame is that a vehicle with the prestige of a Jaguar should need to go there in the first place!
John :)

It's weird that there is no sign of it getting in only it's struggle to get out

I've had another look and there is signs of it on the nearside of the boot lid as well  I will take it to garage and see what they say. It's been a great car all the same..................................except for the fuel consumption. We have only ever had it serviced, mot'd and a couple of tyres.

With things like this, I visit my local bodyshop and ask how much for cash......getting jobs like this via insurance is guaranteed financial suicide - there are huge price differences.
Example.....2 doors and side damage to a Nissan Note - insurance £1500 plus.
Cash £500. Perfect job too!

John, How much do you think it would cost to repaint the lid.? I haven't the slightest idea.
There is a bodyshop near my works so I think I will take it in there on monday and see what they say.

Thanks for that link Mursal.
It looks as though it's a common problem.

Have you any at the leading edge of the trunk lid ? There is a lip on the seal that the lid closes down onto in a wping action. Grit collected there, (washed down by rain), eventually wears away the paint and corrosion starts and then creeps round to the top side. Modification is to cut off this lip with a Stanley knife blade.

Glad to help, extraordinary how it starts, never would have though of the seal causing the problem.

Will you try Jaguar for a recall, the one you missed?

Actually, the one they forgot to tell you about

Has to be worth a try?

I hadn't even thought about contacting them. First thing monday I shall give them a call and see what they say.
