That does seem the way to go. Take it you mean might be struggling for contact stopping the motor turning? anyone know where to get them from?

Google/ebay or just pop into your local domestic appliance shop. Do yourself a favour & check them before rushing out to buy new ones. I would stick with original Bosch brushes, they may be 4/5 times the price of pattern replacements but worth the investment if you value your motor. You can see both types here http://www.espares.co.uk/parts/washing-machines/carbon-brushes/bosch/p/1554/856

Just realised, just before warranty ran out, engineer 12 months ago came out to sort draining issue, sorted that and while he was there he renewed the motor as a favour while under warranty. Can the bushes be worn so soon?

Not very likely, but are you sure it wasn't the pump he changed? Service engineers don't usually change bits that don't need changing. Are you saying you had a 3year warranty???? I mean if the machine is 5 years old now it doesn't tie up.

I had several issues with an indesit washer before giving up and demanding a different washer. settled with this more expensive bosch at no extra charge plus free warranty thrown in

Most warrantys are only 12 months, Bosch warrantys are generally for 2 years.

Does seem odd to replace a motor for no reason as they are pretty solid and cost a fair old wedge of cash.

The life of the brushes is not determined by how long they have been fitted but by how often the machine is used and how many spin cycles especially at the higher speeds it has done. Not to mention the quality of the motor brushes

brushes checked, very short new ones ordered and now working!!!!! Thanks zipper and leccy758!! :D
