Bosch dial just going round

I have a problem with my Bosch washing machine model 2402L (I think). The power is going into the machine and when you set the dial to the cycle it is just rotating and no cycle is activating. It is not clicking as it goes round.
Any Ideas on the problem or even better the solution ???

I had this trouble with my Bosch washer. The plastic tab inside the knob had broken off therefore nothing turning round inside. To buy the new knobs you had to get a whole front set costing over £60, so I since removed the knob and use a screwdriver - not very state of the art but does the job.
