Hi Guys,

Bosch Fridge/Freezer has a fan problem.

The circulation fan has become noisy to the point where it's irritating when running!

Where is the fan located, and is it easy to change?

Should I try a defrost first?

Advice appreciated

John

The fan is located behind the panel in the fridge compartment on those I think.
Not sure a defrost would help, as the fan takes cold air from the freezer, so it should not be iced up.

Maybe just remove the fan to see why it's making the noise before getting a new one - possibly something catching on the blade? What kind of noise is it making?. Those fans are quite pricey.

it's possible that the duct is choked with ice, so you could try a manual defrost first.
Worth a try, but generally the ice does not make it into the blades.
Mind you, I've been around this trade for so long that anything is possible in reality.

As far as I know yes. I was mainly large commercial refrigeration and air conditioning, but domestics did come up time to time.

It sounds like the fan is catching the housing when running....that sort of buzzy noise, maybe the shaft is worn, but the fridge is only around 4 years old. Had to have the fan changed on our previous Siemens model which was exactly the same except stainless finish, The defrost also packed up on that one after......ummm 4 years!
The noise stops when the fridge door is opened and resumes when closed.
I've not heard it make any of the 'cracking' type defrost sounds recently come to think of it

Things are not built to last these days sadly.
The noise stops when you open the door, as it probably has a fan switch, which stops the fan on door open. It helps to reduce ice build-up.
If it's buzzy, doesn't sound like the shaft or a bearing, but something catching on the blade, be it ice or something else.
As John said, it's possible ice has interferred, but you need to get to the fan motor regardless to inspect.
Those fan's are about £120..ish

Removed the back panel inside of the fridge section......no fan, but can see it's outlet at the bottom, so it must be in the freezer section?

I suppose it could be under the panel at the top of the freezer section.
Would not make sense to me why they'd use that config though.

No joy, its not accessible from the freezer either, fan must be up behind the refrigeration coils, so decided to get a new 'quiet' fridge freezer...
