Bosch washing machine

Mother in law has a 9 yr old Bosch classix washing machine. When the power is turned on and the on button is pressed, you immediately get a noise, it sounds like a small rumbling noise that doesn't go away. The machine does everything it should do, it spins very well, washes ok, there is no water left in the machine so i don't know what this noise means. When the machine is on, is there a water pump that comes on and pumps any residual water away, can only think it is something like this on the way out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you checked there is no coins or buttons etc. rattling around in the pump? If the filter has never been cleaned there could be all sorts in there!
